Biography

International Dj and label head of KUMQUAT rec., native from the beautiful city of Prague (Czech Rep.), Ondrej have been refugee in Switzerland since his early childhood. When Switzerland swept up in the first techno-wave in the 90s, was the urban culture diversity in Zurich what influenced his destiny on the electronic music and the inspiration for his graphic art.

Renowned by his impeccable technique of mixing, which keeps a constant tension in the dance floor, Ondrej is an obsessive researcher of new sound and every set is a varied expression: atmospheric or hypnotic, deep or sensitive upon his mood. But unique ones, without any rule or limit. Indeed a set of Ondrej is an amalgam of House and Techno varying genres according the moment: tech-house, minimal, dub–techno.

His DJ background includes major events such as Street Parade (Zurich, CH), Love Parade (Dortmund, DE), VuuV Festival (Germany), Sónar (Barcelona, ES), Fête de la Musique (FR), GET Up! Festival and Electrohm (FR), as well as prestigious clubs including Renaissance (Moscow, RU); Les Enfants Terribles and Zanzibar (Mauritius); Floral Club, Terminal Club and Loud Mansion (Athens, GR); Batofar, La Scène Bastille and Bateau Nix Nox (Paris, FR); and Roxy (Prague, CZ). South America welcomed Ondrej many times at clubs and events such as Privilege BA, Shamrock, Kika, Dorian Gray, Happy Sundays, and Casa de Piedra (Argentina), plus Good Vibes, SAMC and A la Casa Fantasma (Uruguay)—including a standout highlight performing twice in Ushuaia at the “End of the World” during a South American tour. In Zurich, he also performed at the Rundfunk Festival at the Swiss National Museum, broadcast on Rundfunk FM.

Ondrej has shared line‑ups with artists such as Sety (Circus Company), Marcel Dettmann (Ostgut Ton), Steffi (Ostgut Ton/Panorama Bar), ND_Baumecker (Ostgut Ton), Ernesto Ferreyra (Cadenza), Franco Cinelli (Esperanza), Patrick Zigon (Cocoon), Jorge Savoretti (Savor), Gregorythme/Digitaline (Cityfox), Lutzenkirchen (Great Stuff), Prime Time (Goodlife), Oliver Klein (Mutekki), Oliver Koletzki (Stil vor Talent), Alexis Cabrera (Arjaus), Lucas Mari (AirDrop) and more.

His label KUMQUAT Records is distinguished by its diversity, shaping a unique artistic project committed to high‑class music, sophisticated packaging and excellent sound quality. The platform releases on vinyl and digital and has featured credible producers such as Broombeck, Franco Cinelli, Brendon Moeller, Mike Shannon, Exercise One, Jorge Savoretti, Gurtz, Wandler, Flavio Etcheto, Khainz, Tolis Q & Ad Mark, Soundexile, Alexis Cabrera, Juan Zolbaran, Logiztik Sounds and Greenbeam & Leon, among others.

Support and chart placements have come from leading references including Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Luciano, Davide Squillace, Nick Warren, Len Faki, Troy Pierce, Ben Klock, Laurent Garnier, Hernán Cattáneo, Lucy and Alexi Delano, among many others.

He was also invited by the National Electroacoustic Music Laboratory in Havana to present KUMQUAT Records and his approach to DJing as part of a cultural exchange supporting Cuban producers. Beyond music, Ondrej works as a graphic designer and photographer under Ondrej Kolacek Art & Media, collaborating over the years with national and international brands — including Red Bull — on music and sports projects and campaigns. Nowadays KUMQUAT contains a booking section (KumQuat Bookings) and a multimedia & graphic design agency (www.ondrejkolacek.com), both projects successfully implemented by Ondrej.
